San Francisco Solidarity with London Met Students

September 6, 2012 by joshonthebay

San Francisco State University has a very radical history, a successful strike and occupation in the late 1960s for example provided America with its first ‘Ethnic Studies’ department and led to the building of the Caesar Chavez Student Center. So it is in this vain that activists on campus continue to organise.

We heard that a massive attack was taking place upon London Metropolitan University, specifically on the international students and decided we needed to take a stand to support them. The UK Border Agency has undemocratically decided that the uni is no longer capable of providing international students with an education and has effectively made the students institution-less with a threat of deportation! This is just another way the government is trying to take away public education from the poorest and most vulnerable in society, in an attempt to sell it off to big corporations – the attack at London Met is an attack on us all, and their fightback is ours too.

Below are just a few of the students and faculty at our campus who stand in solidarity with students around the world, especially those facing attacks like the one at London Met.

More on the campaign to fightback against the attacks can be found here: and check out a great video of the demonstration in London yesterday (Weds 5th Sept) to demand the reversal of the decision here. There’s also report here as well. Another demonstration in London has been called for the 14th September.

More to follow…

On September 29th the Community College of San Francisco (CCSF), itself under attack will host an international student forum with speakers from Quebec, Chile, Mexico and further afield expected to attend. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in. Keep an eye on the Norcalsocialism website or this blog for more info on how you can get involved.
